So, are they a leader or a follower?
Unless you already have a well-established brand, it is likely that you will be following more social media accounts than those that follow you. You may have noticed that some Twitter users play the numbers game and follow a large number of accounts in order to gain a few followers and increase profile views. For building a strong brand, however, we recommend gaining followers authentically.
An authentic, or organically acquired, follower is one that has a genuine interest in your organization, your products or your services. These individuals are more likely to be a loyal follower and, hopefully, become an ambassador of your brand. Therein lies the marketing potential of social media.
Playing the numbers game will get you numbers. Unless genuinely interested in you and your organization, followers will come and go. Numbers will neither actively participate in your social network nor drive engagement.
So, how do you decide which social media accounts to follow? How active are your followers? Have you taken any steps to increase engagement on your social media page?
